The Band is an online gaming guild. We specialize in online role-playing games like UO, Asheron's Call, Everquest, DaoC and NWN. In-game we are an adventuring group. The Band is a family. We travel together, tell stories together, and above all else, watch out for each other. Monsters fear our diverse group of adventurers. We let nothing stand in our way. Outside of our main role-playing game, The Band is a group of friends. We hang out in IRC and have fun. We play all sorts of other games together that don't require the time and organization that the RPGs do. We play Baldur's Gate, Star Craft, Age of Empires, Quake, CounterStrike, Monarchy, and just about every other game that we can play online together.
Note: When you see the term "in-game" throughout this FAQ, it refers to the RPG which we are currently playing.
What is The Band's Alignment? Are you good or evil? (in-game)
We are neither. Because The Band is a family, our first priority is the the safety of our members. We care not about the fight between good and evil. Our focus is on Band members having fun. If someone steps on a Band member's toe, we take action. Therefore, The Band's alignment leans toward Chaotic Neutral.
What are The Band's views on Player Killing? (in-game)
We recognize that to a certain extent, player killing is one of the more entertaining parts of a game. We are completely against any of our members killing innocent players randomly. We believe that if the person deserves it, he should die. For instance, any player that taunts you or steals from you has the right to die. Any player that opposes a Band member also has the right to die.
How do I join The Band?
The Band's membership is Invite-Only. That means you must be invited to join. You can get invited either by asking a member on ICQ or IRC or by finding us in-game. I suggest you get to know us all before you decide to join. Find us on irc at gryphon.magicstar.net in channel #TheBand.
Does The Band allow members to be multi-guilded?
Being a member of The Band requires that you devote all of your available time to us. Being a member of two guilds would split your priorities. Therefore, members must be 100% loyal to The Band. You may not join a second guild unless under special circumstances (i.e. TB doesn't play the same game as your second guild).
How are members ranked? Who is the leader?
All members are equal in The Band. There are no authoritative rankings. We are all on the same level. However, we believe in strong organization. Leadership is essential in organization within the guild. We have many titles given to members that show leadership. These titles have little authoritative justification. They are responsibilities. We have one Leader who makes key decisions and runs the show overall. The Chief of Staff (CoS) is the second in command who takes care of things when the leader is unavailable. The CoS is an out-of-game position and also does a lot of paperwork and webpage work for the guild. In-game we have a Viceroy who operates and organizes the events that take place in the game. There are also many other positions and people that work together to make The Band prosper. See The Band Organizational Chart for more information. If you are REALLY bored, you can read our charter to better understand the out-of-game system.
Our current Leader is Thelorn. The Chief of Staff is Daegen. The Viceroy of UO is Xavier Lox.
Why do you have such a strict application process?
We believe The Band should be a tight-knit group. We must all respect each other and be willing to help each other whenever needed. Because of this, we have to thoroughly analyze every applicant to ensure that they will fit into our group, and represent us well.
Why do you cut inactive members?
This is basically the same as the last question. The Band must be a family. It is hard to know everyone well enough to be a family if there are 200+ members, 100 of which you only see once or twice a month. This is why we require all Band Members to be somewhat active every week. Members that are dropped because of inactivity can still rejoin later once they are ready to become active again.
